TROPICAL STAR

KURANCHERY, THRISSUR

“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” – Pablo Picasso

The design of the Tropical Star is an exploration into how the idealised concept of an office can be transformed by its context and use.

This stunning elevated site is exposed to nature in both good ways and bad. A building that was once exposed to harsh sunlight and wind, now harnesses those very same elements to create a comfortable internal environment, without the need for mechanical systems.

The decision to use a steel structural system and punctuating the tropical façade with RCC slabs and country bricks ramped up the sustainability and energy factors of the building. The economy, simplicity and clarity of the Tropical Star led to a simplified construction process within a controlled budget.
